Smithtown is the hamlet at the center of the Town of Smithtown, a few minutes west of our Saint James HQ. Its downtown grew up along Main Street, where Jericho Turnpike runs past shops, restaurants, and older commercial buildings. At the western end of Main Street, the bronze bull statue has become the town's landmark.

The Nissequogue River is the big natural feature. It flows through the Caleb Smith State Park Preserve on Jericho Turnpike and winds north to Smithtown Bay and Long Island Sound, with paddling and fishing along the way. Blydenburgh County Park, with its large pond and trails, sits on the south side of town. Between the two, there is a lot of green space close to home.

The housing mix is broad. Near Main Street you see older colonials and capes on established lots. Further out, streets are lined with high ranches, split levels, ranches, and colonials from the postwar building years, many of them expanded or rebuilt since. There are also condominium and townhouse options for buyers who want less upkeep. That range means two houses a few blocks apart can price very differently, which is why we walk the comparable sales with every client.

Getting around is straightforward. The Smithtown station sits on the Port Jefferson Branch of the LIRR. By car, Jericho Turnpike, Nesconset Highway, and Veterans Memorial Highway cross the area, and the Northern State Parkway and the Long Island Expressway are close by to the south.
