Northport is a harbor village in the Town of Huntington, set on Northport Harbor off Northport Bay and Long Island Sound. Its Main Street runs downhill to the water and ends at Northport Village Park, where the village dock, the gazebo, and the harbor views draw visitors in every season.

The village has deep maritime roots, and it shows in the streets. Main Street still carries its old trolley tracks, and it is lined with restaurants, shops, and the John W. Engeman Theater. Crab Meadow Beach, a Town of Huntington beach on the Sound, is a short drive east, and the village dock at the foot of Main Street and the harbor moorings put boating within easy reach.

Housing in and around the village includes Victorians, historic cottages, and older colonials on the streets that climb up from the harbor, along with waterfront and water view homes along the shoreline. Beyond the village, the wider Northport area, including East Northport and Fort Salonga, has capes, ranches, high ranches, split levels, and colonials on larger suburban lots.
